This feature is only works for a security and update packages but if you want to update your WordPress blog with major release like update to v3.7 to v3.8 then you have to put following snippets of codes in your wordpress files to enable it.

Tips to Enable WordPress for major Release

how to enable automatic updates in wordpress
You can enable this function by adding some snippet of codes in wp core files but first of all make sure that your hosting providers are up to-date with WordPress and all your Themes and plugins too so your newest WordPress version doesn't conflict with your installed themes and plugins.

Open your cPanel and then open File Manager. Search for wp-config.php and enter the following code.

define( 'WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', true );

Here keep in mind that this snippet of code will enable all WordPress developers nightly updates. Nightly updates are not the proper updates and it will conflict with your plugins and themes files. To protect your blog from nightly updates put this snippet of code in your Theme > functions.php file.

add_filter( 'allow_dev_auto_core_updates''__return_false');

Now your WordPress blog will only automatically update whenever there is a major and stable release is available. Just try this and share your views with us.
